NATIONAL ADVOCANCY PLATFORM HAVE OFFERED THEIR CONDOLENCES TO PRESIDENT DR LAZARUS CHAKWERA ON DEATH OF VICE PRESIDENT DR SAULOSI KRAUS CHILIMA

 





National Advocacy Platform (NAP), a grouping of various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), have offered their condolences to President Lazarus Chakwera on the death of Vice-President Saulos Chilima and eight others who perished in a military plane crash on MondayThe CSOs, who were led by their chairperson Benedicto Kondwe, offered their condolences to the President this afternoon at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.



During the meeting, Kondowe said they are in solidarity with Chakwera and all Malawians during this period, adding that they will play their role of uniting people as they mourn the fallen Vice-President. He said: "As non-State actors, we will stand by you to make sure that peace prevails during this trying period".

Similarly, Malawi Human Rights Consultative Committee chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba, said: "We remain committed to playing our role to ensure that peace and national security are maintained".On his part, Chakwera expressed his profound gratitude to the CSOs for their comforting and encouraging message, describing the death of Chilima and the eight others as shocking.



"I must also condole you because what has befallen us is something which has affected all of us. It is imperative that we grieve and comfort each other because it helps all of us to have closure," he said.

Apart from Chilima, the military plane crash also claimed the life of his special assistant and former first lady Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri, his guard commander Lucas Kapheni, aide-de-camp Chisomo Chimaneni, medical officer Dan Kanyemba and deputy chief of staff in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdul Lapukeni.Others were Colonel Owen Sambalopa who was the Pilot-in-Command, Major Flora Selemani Ngwinjili who was the Second-in-Command and aircraft engineer Major Wellece Aidin.

The body of Vice president will be burien on Monday 17 June 2024 in Ntchewu as his home village. On this day, Dr Lazarus Chakwera announced that on this day will holiday to give chance and space to those want to be present on this day to give their last respect to Vice president Dr Saulosi Kraus Chilima .
